How to use the stress type quiz

Most stress advice is written for an average person who does not exist. It suggests breathing when what you actually need is rest, or rest when what you actually need is to put one thing down. This quiz exists to narrow that gap. It asks five short questions about how stress tends to arrive for you, and offers a pattern name rather than a label.

The five patterns are the overwhelmed, the anxious, the burned out, the disconnected, and the high-pressure perfectionist. None of them is a condition and none of them is permanent. Many people recognise themselves in two, and the one that comes out on top is usually the one asking for attention first.

Five steps to a result you can act on

    1. 1. Choose a settled moment. Answering in the middle of a difficult hour tends to describe the hour rather than the pattern. If you can, take the quiz when things are ordinary.
    2. 2. Answer for the usual, not the ideal. Pick what actually happens most weeks, not what you would prefer to be true. Honest answers give a more useful result.
    3. 3. Go with your first instinct. If two options feel close, choose the one your body recognised first. You can step back and change any answer before you see the result.
    4. 4. Read the result slowly. You will see a short description of the pattern and three gentle starting points. Notice which sentence you would rather skip past. That one is often worth sitting with.
    5. 5. Pick one starting point. Choose a single suggestion and try it for a week before adding anything else. Change that lasts tends to be quiet and small.

What the quiz is, and what it is not

This is a reflective tool created by a UK-registered mental health nurse. It is not a diagnostic instrument, it does not screen for anxiety or depression, and it does not replace an assessment from your GP or a mental health professional. GrowthPlaceWellness offers non-clinical support. Nothing here is therapy or treatment.

Your answers stay in your browser while you take the quiz. Nothing is stored unless you choose to share your email address for a fuller personalised guide.

Some signs suggest it is worth speaking to someone rather than working through a tool alone: stress that has not lifted for several weeks, sleep that has changed persistently, withdrawing from people you usually enjoy, or feeling unable to cope with ordinary days. If any of that sounds familiar, please contact your GP, and visit the Get Help page for urgent contacts.

Common questions about stress types, what the quiz measures, and how to use your results.

    What to do next

A result is only useful if something changes afterwards. Choose one next step rather than all of them. Small and repeated beats large and abandoned.

If your mind will not settle

Try the Worry Jar to place a circling thought somewhere outside your head, then return to it later with fresh eyes.

    If your body feels wired

Use the breathing and grounding practices on the Psychoeducation page. Two minutes is enough to signal safety to your nervous system.

    If everything feels flat

The Gratitude Journal and Self-Care Bingo rebuild small moments of contact with yourself and the day.

If you would like to talk it through

Individualised 1:1 sessions offer space to unpack the pattern with someone who listens carefully. See Services for the free introductory call.

If things feel urgent, or you are worried about your safety, please do not wait for a quiz result. Our Get Help page lists urgent contacts for the UK and Ghana.
