Understanding Trauma and PTSD
Trauma is an emotional response to a deeply distressing event such as abuse, an accident, or loss. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop when the effects of trauma persist - causing flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and avoidance behaviours. Trauma responses are normal reactions to abnormal events, and healing is possible. Evidence-based treatments like EMDR and trauma-focused CBT can help people process traumatic experiences and regain a sense of safety.
